14444 Toll-Free Helpline for Digital Payments Launched

The government, in collaboration with telecom and IT industry, has launched a toll-free helpline – 14444 – to address consumer queries on digital payments. The toll free helpline for digital payments is now live.

The aim of this helpline is to reduce the clutter to make cashless transactions and improve the penetration of the various digital instrument available and advertised by the government time to time. There are various channels available in India apart from the traditional digital payment option viz. Credit Card.
Citizens can call 14444 so that they can get more information on new digital payment methods such as
Unified Payments Interface (UFI)
BHIM app launched earlier this week
wallets and prepaid cards and debit and credit cards. The helpline was launched in collaboration with the IT and telecom ministry.
The helpline will address questions regarding various platforms, including the newly-launched Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM), e-Wallets, Aadhaar-enabled payment system and USSD. As all telecom companies are participating in the initiative so the helpline will be available to subscribers of all operators. Such consumers can call up the helpline, which is an interactive voice response system, and in case of specific queries, can also choose to speak to an agent.
Languages Available
“The helpline ‘14444‘ is available in North as well as Eastern part of the country in English and Hindi and will soon be extended pan India, and in other languages,” Telecom Secretary J S Deepak told PTI.
Cost Details
As per the notification issued by the government the cost of the project is initially being borne by the industry. After a few weeks, the government is likely to take a decision on financial support for the initiative after taking into account the emerging call traffic patterns.
Although the notification doesn’t specify which industry it is supposing to.
